Software and Tools:
PDAs

Overview

pdaThe College of Pharmacy distributes PDAs to first-year Pharm.D. students. The incoming class (2011) will be provided Palm T/X PDAs. The following resources are intended to provide some support as students begin using these for their personal and professional purposes.

In addition, students can access Lexi-Comp databases ( www.lexi-com/web ) for download onto their PDA. Senior Associate Dean Ron Hadsall is responsible for this program. Additional information about how to download Lexi-Comp to your PDA is located at http://www.pharmacy.umn.edu/pharmd/tcstudents/tctechnology/home.html

In December, personnel from Lexi-Comp will deliver two informational sessions. These are scheduled as follows:

Duluth: Wednesday, 12/5/07; 165 Life Sciences, 12:15-1:15 p.m.
Twin Cities: Tuesday, 12/4/07; 7-135 WDH, 12:15-1:15 p.m.

In addition, an un-edited version of the brief (30 minute) training event that occured in 2006 on the Twin Cities campus is available via RealMedia at the link below:

Downloading and Accessing Lexi-Comp and the Clinical Pharmacology Database

Instructions re: Lexi-Comp have been e-mailed to you. In addition, these instructions have been placed in the (WebCT) Vista site, Students Evolving as Pharmacists - (StEP). This "course" site should be available to you when you access "MyWebCT" (in Vista) or at your U of M Portal. If you do NOT have access to that Vista site, please contact copoed@umn.edu to obtain access. NOTE: You must use your X500 e-mail account to request such access. This helps us ensure that only PharmD students are provided with access to the site and information contained within.

The Minnesota Pharmacist has printed two articles discussing free PDA downloads:
